ABOUT US

We are an elite group of 8th grade students who are trained to be peer tutors for the 7th and 8th graders in our middle school.  We call ourselves writing coaches because we will coach you through your assignments so that they are YOUR best.

This group was established in 2011 by Ms. Renee Brown, an ELA teacher in our building.  If you have questions about our work, feel free to contact Ms. Brown at brownr@pt-sd.org.

Here's how it works

  1. Decide that your paper or work will be better if you have a peer conference.

  2. Go to your ELA teacher and ask for a pass to the Writing Lab in B204 period 11.

  3.  Bring your work, including any notes, drafts, and assignment sheets, to the Writing Lab period 11.

  4. A Writing Coach will read over your work with you and will talk with you about changes you could make.

  5. When you leave, you know what your next step is to make your work the best you can make.

What can we help with?

  • Language Arts assignment?  The Writing Coaches can give you advice on how to polish it.

  • Social Studies test essay?  The Writing Coaches can help you make your ideas clear and concise.

  • Science LAB REPORT?  Make sure it's formatted correctly and you get all your convention points by having a Writing Coach read over it with you.

  • Tech movie script?  Your characters say what they need to say after the Writing Coach takes a look at it.

  • World Language research?  Writing Coaches help with that, too!

  • Need to type something for a class assignment?  We have laptops and Writing Coach experts on hand to help you troubleshoot and write digitally!

We look forward to seeing you in Writing Lab!

In Feb. 2015, the Writing Lab started the tradition of taking a trip to Duquesne University to work with and to learn from their Writing Center staff.  Below is a link to Duquense's Alumni Publication which features our coaches on page 7.

PTMS Writing lab Alumni get published!

Every year, writing lab coaches go to the SSWCA national conference in Washington, DC to present their work at both the middle school and the high school levels. In 2018, the one of the keynote speakers is PTMS alumni Devon Milley!
